Business websites in Colombia: get found on Google and get messages on WhatsApp

In Colombia almost everything sells over WhatsApp, so a business website has to lead into that chat with the basics already answered: what you sell, delivery areas, when there's an appointment. I build sites like that for shops and professionals, remotely from Argentina.

Business websites in Colombia: get found on Google and get messages on WhatsApp

If you need a website for a business in Colombia, here's how I approach it: customers will message you on WhatsApp no matter what, so the site has to lead them into that chat with the basics already answered. What you sell, how to get a price, where you deliver, when there's an appointment. I build sites like that remotely from Argentina, two hours ahead of Colombia.

This page is for a few kinds of readers: Colombians abroad who own or help run a business back home, foreigners who opened a café or a guesthouse in Medellín or Cartagena, and local owners who'd rather work in English. You can talk to me in English while the site speaks Spanish to your customers, or both languages if you serve visitors.

WhatsApp is the main channel; the site is the storefront

The most common mistake is treating the website as separate from WhatsApp. It should be the other way around: every page gets its button, and the message arrives with context. If a customer taps “Order” on a burger, the chat opens with “Hi, I'd like the double burger delivered”, not an empty “Hi” that forces you to ask everything.

I explain it in WhatsApp button on your website and, if you sell products, in selling on WhatsApp with an online catalog. The site doesn't replace the conversation; it shortens it.

What each type of business needs

Restaurants and fast food. A current menu with photos, clear delivery areas (“domicilios” in Colombia) and hours. If you want to rely less on delivery apps, see own online ordering for restaurants.

Dental, aesthetic and medical practices. Services in plain language, practitioners with photos, location and a button to request an appointment (a “cita”). See website for dentists.

Barbershops and salons. A gallery of cuts, prices per service and booking over WhatsApp or with a booking system. More in website for barbershops.

Clothing, shoe and accessory stores. A catalog by category and size, with a button to ask about availability. Often there's no need for a checkout.

Guesthouses, cafés and tour operators serving visitors. A bilingual website lets English-speaking travelers understand what you offer before they message you.

Google: getting found in your neighborhood

When someone searches “barbershop near me” or “dentist in Laureles”, Google shows the map with business profiles first. Your site and your Google profile need to say the same thing: name, address, hours, phone. Here's a Google Business Profile guide. And if you're torn between a website and Instagram, read website or Instagram: the answer is almost always both, each doing its own job.

Real case

A real case from another country: Boca de Lobo

In Buenos Aires I built the website for Boca de Lobo, a steakhouse with locations in the Floresta and Caballito neighborhoods: a QR digital menu with more than 250 items, promotions and locations, plus their own dashboard to change prices, dishes and specials without depending on the developer. It's the same idea that works for a restaurant in Bogotá or Barranquilla: a menu that's always current, edited by the business itself.

How we work remotely

We start with a short video call so I understand the business. I send a written proposal. You share photos, the menu or catalog, and the copy (if you don't have it, we put it together and you review it). You open each step from a link on your phone and sign off before we continue. At the end you get the site live, on your own domain, with a dashboard to manage it. Argentina is two hours ahead of Colombia all year, and the overlap with the US East Coast is good too.

If your site collects personal data through forms, Colombia has data protection rules that apply: check with a local lawyer for the policy wording and consents, and I'll add them to the site.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a website if I already sell on Instagram and WhatsApp?

Instagram helps people discover you; a website helps them find you when they search on Google and see everything clearly before they message you. They don't compete: the site leads to the same WhatsApp, with a customer who has already decided.

Can I update products and prices myself?

Yes. The site comes with a dashboard where you change products, prices, photos, hours and promotions from your phone, without waiting on me.

Can the site be in English and Spanish?

Yes. I write in both, so a bilingual site works well for businesses that serve travelers or customers abroad. Each language gets its own pages, so Google can show the right one.

What's the time difference with Argentina?

Argentina is two hours ahead of Colombia all year. Your 9 a.m. is my 11 a.m., so we can coordinate easily during the day.
