How to choose a web developer in Argentina: practical guide

There are thousands of web developers in Argentina. How do you know which one is right for your project? Here are the concrete criteria to choose well.

Facundo Campo·

Searching for a web developer can be overwhelming. There are freelancers, agencies, studios, and each one promises different results at prices ranging from $200,000 to $5,000,000 ARS. How do you know who's serious and who'll deliver something mediocre? After years working in web development and having seen projects that went well and others that were disasters, I share the key criteria you should evaluate.

Look at the portfolio, not the diplomas

The first thing you need to ask for is previous work. Not degrees, not certifications, not technology lists: real work you can open in your browser and test. Check if sites load fast, look good on mobile, and have intuitive navigation. A good portfolio tells you more than any resume. If a developer doesn't have a portfolio or can't show you previous work, that's a major red flag.

They should explain in your language

A good developer knows how to translate technical concepts into language a business owner understands. If in the first meeting they bombard you with acronyms (API, CMS, CDN, SSL) without explaining what they mean or why they matter for your business, it'll probably be hard to communicate throughout the project. Look for someone who understands your business goals, not just technical ones.

Ask about real timelines

A landing page can be ready in 1-2 weeks. A 5-page institutional site in 3-4 weeks. An e-commerce in 6-8 weeks. If they promise a complete site in 3 days, they're either using a generic template or will deliver something incomplete. Good developers are honest about timelines because they know rushing a project goes badly.

What's included in the price (and what's not)

Before closing, make sure you're clear on what the quote includes. Are domain and hosting included? How many design revisions do you get? Does it include mobile optimization? Do they give you the source code? Is there post-delivery support? Many developers charge cheaply upfront and then charge for every minor change. Ask for a detailed written quote.

Red flags

Be suspicious if they have no visible portfolio, can't show you a live production site, the price is too low compared to market (probably a template), they don't give you a contract or written quote, promise "#1 Google ranking" (nobody can guarantee that), or don't respond to messages in reasonable time before starting. If communication is bad before hiring, it'll be worse after.

Your project

In my portfolio you can see 54+ demo websites I designed and developed, 6 mobile apps published on Play Store, and my full experience. All code is proprietary, no templates. If you want a professional website for your business, contact me.
