Website for beauty salons and spas: treatments, gift cards and bookings

A beauty salon or spa website should explain each treatment without overpromising, let clients book around free rooms and therapists, and sell gift cards online. Gift cards often bring in new clients who wouldn't have found you otherwise.

Website for beauty salons and spas: treatments, gift cards and bookings

A website for a beauty salon or day spa has three jobs: explain each treatment without overpromising, let clients book around the rooms and therapists that are actually free, and sell gift cards online. That covers your regulars, the people still deciding, and the ones who don't know you yet but are about to receive a gift.

It works for a solo esthetician's studio, a salon with several treatment rooms, or a city day spa.

Gift cards are your best salesperson

Think about who buys a spa gift card: someone who wants to treat their mom, partner or best friend, and who has often never been to your place. They search a few days before Mother's Day, Valentine's Day or a birthday, and if they can buy it from their phone in two minutes, they pick you.

The person who receives it is a brand-new client who walks in with the treatment already paid for. If the experience is good, they come back. That's why online gift cards aren't an add-on. They're one of the hardest-working parts of a spa website, especially around holidays.

How online gift cards work

  • The buyer picks a treatment, a spa package or an open amount.
  • They add a personal note and the recipient's name.
  • They pay online and get a card ready to forward by email or text, or to print.
  • Each card has a unique code and an expiration date you set.
  • When the client redeems it, you mark it in your admin page and it can't be used again.

Explain, don't promise

In the beauty business it's easy to slip into lines like visible results after one session or say goodbye to cellulite. I don't write those. They can't be guaranteed, they make people suspicious, and in some places they run into advertising rules. Clear explanations work better.

Give each treatment its own page: what it is, what the session is like, how long it takes, whether a series is recommended, and what to do before and after. If a treatment isn't right for everyone, the page says so and points to a consultation where the therapist decides. Clients show up informed, and the conversation in the treatment room is easier.

Booking that knows about rooms

A spa isn't a hair salon. Besides the therapist, many treatments need a specific room or device, and a calendar that doesn't know that ends up with two clients booked on the same table. Online booking can be set up so each treatment knows what it needs and only offers times when everything is free.

For treatments sold as a series, clients can buy a package and see how many sessions they have left. And as the appointment gets close, they get a reminder. More on that in appointment reminders.

Real case

Specials you change yourself

In a different industry, Boca de Lobo is a steakhouse with two locations in Buenos Aires. Its website has a digital menu, specials, and its own admin page to change prices, dishes and promotions without calling the developer.

A spa lives on seasonal offers: the pre-summer package, the Mother's Day spa day, the midweek deal. With an admin page like that, you change them yourself the day you think of them. More on that in self-managed websites.

Keep them coming back

Facials, waxing and massages are things people repeat. A client who comes every month is worth far more than several who come once. A simple points system or a perk after a number of visits helps you stay their go-to: I wrote about it in customer loyalty programs.

I work on my own, remotely from Buenos Aires (UTC−3), with video calls and progress you can check through a link, in English or Spanish. I quote each project separately; see what else I do on the services page.

Frequently asked questions

Can people pay for gift cards on the website?

Yes. The buyer picks a treatment or an amount, pays online with the payment methods you already use, and receives the card to forward or print. You can see which ones were sold and which have been redeemed.

Does booking know which room or device each treatment needs?

It can. If a treatment needs a specific room or piece of equipment, the site only offers times when that room and a qualified therapist are both free. Two bookings that need the same thing never overlap.

We offer treatments done by doctors. Does that change anything?

It changes what you can say. Medical procedures have their own advertising rules in each country, so those pages should be reviewed by the physician in charge and their licensing board. I build those pages to explain without promising and to make a consultation the first step.
