Custom software developer for Colombia: systems for businesses in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali
I build custom software for businesses in Colombia: inventory, orders, service tickets and client portals, remotely from Argentina. It makes sense when off-the-shelf software forces your company to work in a way it doesn't, and it's built in stages so you start using it early.

If you need a custom software developer for a business in Colombia, here's how I work: I build systems for small and mid-sized companies, remotely from Argentina, two hours ahead of Bogotá. I work on my own, so you talk directly with the person writing the software, not an account manager.
This page is for owners and managers who may not be in Colombia themselves: a US company with a Colombian operation, a family business run partly from abroad, or a founder in Bogotá or Medellín who wants to work in English. The project can run in English while the system speaks Spanish to the people who use it every day.
Custom or off-the-shelf?
The honest answer first: if there's a product that does what you need with minor tweaks, use it. It's faster and cheaper to start. Custom software makes sense in three cases:
Your process is what sets you apart. Think of a Medellín apparel maker that builds wholesale orders by size and color for each retail client, with cutting times and outside sewing workshops that no generic system tracks.
You pay for modules you don't use and still keep spreadsheets on the side.
Your customers or field techs need to use it, not just the office.
I go deeper in custom software vs off-the-shelf.
What comes up in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and the Caribbean coast
Apparel in Medellín and Bogotá. Brands that sell wholesale to stores across the country and need clients to see styles, sizes and availability without photo dumps on WhatsApp. A wholesale ordering portal or a B2B customer portal handles that.
Distributors. Inventory across several warehouses, reps on the road, shipments to other cities. Customers want to know where their order is, and an order tracking page saves a lot of calls.
Technical service and maintenance companies. Air conditioning in Barranquilla and Cartagena, elevators, industrial equipment in Cali. Paper service tickets get lost; work order management software with phone entry, photos and customer signature doesn't.
Builders and steel structure makers. For warehouses and metal roofs, the Estructuras 3D blog has a piece on 3D configurators for warehouses and metal roofs in Colombia.
A real example of a small system used every day
In Argentina I built the internal system for Mecohue, a pet shop with a vet clinic and grooming in Wilde, near Buenos Aires: checkout, appointments and one-tap WhatsApp reminders. It isn't an ERP. It's exactly what the business needed to retire the paper notebook, built around how they already worked. That's the point of custom software, for a Colombian company too.
See the Mecohue caseWhat companies usually ask for first
| Company | The problem | A sensible first stage |
|---|---|---|
| Apparel brand | Wholesale orders over WhatsApp with photos | Ordering portal by style and size |
| Distributor | Warehouses that don't share inventory | Unified inventory and orders |
| Service company | Paper service tickets | Work orders from the phone |
| Company with corporate clients | Emails asking for status and documents | Client portal |
In stages, not all at once
A common mistake is ordering the full system and waiting months to use it. I'd rather start with the part that hurts most (inventory, orders, service tickets), put it to work, then add the rest with what we learned. I explain it in building software in phases.
How it works: a video call to understand your operation, a written proposal in stages, progress links you approve before we move on, and day-to-day contact on WhatsApp or email. Colombia is two hours behind Argentina all year, and from the US East Coast the overlap is good too. Regulatory matters, such as Colombian e-invoicing or personal data rules, are for your accountant or a local professional to confirm; I build the system to match. If you also need a company site, see business websites in Colombia.
Frequently asked questions
What's the time difference between Colombia and Argentina?
Argentina is two hours ahead of Colombia all year. When it's 9 a.m. in Bogotá, it's 11 a.m. in Buenos Aires, so we share nearly the whole workday.
Can the system handle Colombian e-invoicing?
Colombian electronic invoicing has its own rules, and your accountant should confirm what applies. Usually the system connects to the invoicing provider you already use instead of replacing it. We define that in the proposal.
What about customer data privacy?
Colombia has personal data protection rules that apply to your company. Check with a local lawyer or advisor about the consents and policies you need; I build the system to store and show data accordingly.
Is this better than an ERP?
Not always. If an ERP or an off-the-shelf product works for you with minor changes, use it. Custom software makes sense when the way you work is what sets you apart and generic software forces you to change it or keep side spreadsheets.
If you run a company in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla or anywhere in Colombia, or manage one from abroad, and want to know whether custom software makes sense, message me on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 6193-3176 or email contacto@facundocampo.com.ar. I answer in English and Spanish, and I quote each project separately. You can also use the [contact page](/en/contacto).
