Software developer for Canadian small businesses: remote custom software that fits your season

If you run a small business in Canada and need a website, a booking system, work orders for your crews or a dashboard to run things from, I can build it remotely from Buenos Aires, Argentina, in English. Argentina is one to two hours ahead of Toronto and Montreal and four to five ahead of Vancouver depending on the time of year, so we always share a good part of the day.

This is for the owner juggling spreadsheets, texts and an off-the-shelf app that never quite fits, who wants to know what hiring a developer outside Canada actually looks like: which businesses get the most out of it, how the work runs and what to check locally.

Built around your season

Here's something generic software handles badly in Canada: seasons. A landscaping company that switches to snow removal in winter. A cottage rental that lives off the summer. A roofing or deck crew whose calendar is packed for a few months and quiet the rest. A tire shop where everybody wants their winter tires on the same week.

In businesses like these, the system has to know what time of year it is: which services are on offer, which slots are open, who to message when the season starts. Custom software follows your real calendar instead of making you bend to someone else's.

English, French and what I can do

I work in English and Spanish. If your business is in Quebec or serves French-speaking customers, the site can have English and French versions, each on its own address so Google shows the right one. You or your translator bring the French copy. I don't write in French, but I set it up, link it properly and make it easy to update from your dashboard. More in bilingual websites for small businesses.

Real case

A real case from another industry: Mecohue

Mecohue is a pet store with a vet clinic and dog grooming in the Buenos Aires suburbs. I built its website with a product catalog, services and booking over WhatsApp, plus an internal system with a cash register, appointments and one-tap WhatsApp reminders to customers.

Different country, different industry, but the problem looks a lot like many Canadian small businesses: several services with their own calendars, customers who need a heads-up on time and the need to see everything in one place.

How we work together

We start with a video call where you show me how you work today: the spreadsheets, the messages, the estimate you send. From that I put together a proposal in phases and a quote. You follow progress through a link on your phone and approve each phase. We talk by email or WhatsApp, and if your crew lives on text messages, reminders can go out that way too.

If you build garages, cabins or modular homes, I wrote a separate piece on 3D configurators for Canadian manufacturers, and the Estructuras 3D blog covers 3D configurators for builders in Canada. For the day-to-day of working with someone remote, see working with a remote developer.

What to check locally

Canada and its provinces have their own privacy rules, and some have rules on the language businesses use. I set up consent checkboxes, a privacy page with your wording and permissions so each employee only sees what they need. What the law requires in your province, and anything to do with taxes and invoicing, is for a local professional or your accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build the site in English and French?

I can build it with both versions, each on its own address. I write in English and Spanish, so the French copy comes from you or your translator, and I set it up and link it properly.

How do we handle the time difference across provinces?

With Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal we're one or two hours apart; with Vancouver, four or five, depending on the time of year. Either way there's overlap for a video call, and the rest happens through messages and progress links.

Does it work for a business that changes a lot between summer and winter?

Yes, and it's one of the first things to plan: services that switch on by season, different prices, messages to past customers when the season opens. The system is built on your real calendar.

Who takes care of privacy rules?

Canada and each province have their own rules on personal data. I build the consent, permissions and notices you need, but what the law requires for your business is a question for a local professional.
