Carport configurator for Southeast US dealers: be the first to answer, with a drawing

In the Southeast, someone shopping for a carport or metal garage usually contacts several dealers and buys from whoever answers first with something concrete. A 3D configurator lets them design it, see it and send it themselves, and gives the dealer a complete order to pass to the manufacturer and the install crew.

Carport configurator for Southeast US dealers: be the first to answer, with a drawing

A carport configurator is a tool where buyers design their carport or metal garage (size, roof style, sides, doors and colors), see it in 3D and send it to you. Across the Southeast (Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama and around) a lot of these buildings are sold through dealers, and many dealers carry more than one manufacturer.

In that market, speed decides a lot. Buyers reach out to several dealers and go with whoever answers first with something concrete. This is for manufacturers and dealers who want to be that first answer. You can try the idea in Estructuras 3D, the demo I built for manufacturers.

They ask three dealers and buy from the one who answers

Someone needs cover for the truck, the boat or the camper. They search on their phone, find three or four dealers nearby and message all of them. One replies the next day with a question. Another sends a PDF price sheet. The third sends a link with the carport they asked for, drawn up at their size, in their color.

You know who gets the sale. With a configurator, the buyer doesn't even have to wait: they design it at night, see it, and what reaches you is an order, not a question. The Estructuras 3D blog has a piece on quote response time if you want the longer version of this argument.

What buyers should be able to pick

What the manufacturer builds, with its rules built in:

  • Roof style: regular (rounded), A-frame or boxed eave, or vertical roof, which sheds rain better.
  • Size: width, length and leg height in feet, say a 20x21 for two cars or a tall one for an RV.
  • Sides: open, partial side panels, or fully enclosed.
  • Openings: roll-up doors, walk-in doors and windows once it's enclosed.
  • Colors: roof, sides and trim, using your real color chart.
  • Combo units: a carport with an enclosed storage room at the back or side.

The order your install crew needs

Carports and metal garages are installed on site by a crew that shows up with the parts. For that day to go well, the installer needs to know whether the ground is level, whether it's dirt, gravel or a concrete pad, and whether there's room for the truck.

The configurator can ask that as part of the order. What reaches the manufacturer is a complete sheet: size, style, sides, openings, colors and site details, tagged with the dealer who sold it. Fewer calls to confirm, fewer wasted trips because “the ground had a slope.”

Wind ratings, certification and the coast

Parts of the Southeast have tougher wind requirements, especially near the coast, and each county can ask for different things. If you sell certified versions for certain loads, the configurator can offer only the ones that apply and show a reminder. But who certifies and what each place requires is up to the manufacturer's engineering and local codes, and the buyer confirms it with their county or a local professional.

For manufacturers: one tool across your dealer network

If you build carports and sell through dealers, a configurator keeps the network consistent. Everyone shows the same models and the same color chart, nobody sells something you don't build, and every order arrives in the same format. With a link per dealer, you see what each one sells without chasing spreadsheets.

I wrote more in a 3D configurator for dealer networks and carport configurators for dealers. Estructuras 3D also has a piece on carport quote tools.

Real case

A real project: EQUIBOX

For EQUIBOX, a horse stall and barn manufacturer near Buenos Aires, Argentina, I built a 3D quote tool. Customers design their barn by choosing size, model, walls and accessories, download a PDF spec sheet and request a quote on WhatsApp, and the sales team follows up through the company's CRM. A carport is simpler, but the path is the same: the buyer designs, the seller gets everything spelled out.

You can try Estructuras 3D with metal buildings, carports, stalls and modular homes.

Working with me from Argentina

I work on my own, remotely from Buenos Aires. Depending on the time of year, Argentina is one to two hours ahead of Georgia and the Carolinas, and two to three ahead of areas on Central time like Alabama or most of Tennessee. You send your catalog, color chart and engineering rules; I send progress links and you approve each phase. We talk in English or Spanish.

If you also sell sheds through dealers, see shed configurators for US shed builders.

Frequently asked questions

Can each dealer have the configurator under their own name?

Yes. Each dealer can have their own link with their name and contact details, and every order arrives tagged with who generated it. The manufacturer sees everything; each dealer sees their own.

Does the configurator know if a carport is certified for my area?

It doesn't certify anything. Wind and snow loads and county requirements are decided by the manufacturer's engineering and local codes. The configurator can offer only the options approved for each area, plus a reminder for the buyer to confirm.

Does it handle enclosed garages and combo units?

Yes. Beyond open carports, buyers can close in the sides, add roll-up doors, walk-in doors and windows, or build a carport with an enclosed storage room.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It's made for buyers browsing on their phone and for dealers showing it on a tablet at the lot.
