Horse barn configurator for builders: what I learned building one for a real stall maker

A horse barn configurator lets owners design their barn by choosing size, model, walls and accessories, download a PDF spec sheet and ask for a quote. That's how the tool I built for EQUIBOX, a stall manufacturer in Argentina, works today.

Horse barn configurator for builders: what I learned building one for a real stall maker

A horse barn configurator is a tool on a barn builder's website where horse owners design their barn (size, model, walls, accessories), see it in 3D, download a PDF spec sheet and ask for a quote. The builder gets a complete request instead of “how much for a stall?”.

I'm not describing a concept. I built one for EQUIBOX, a horse stall and barn manufacturer near Buenos Aires, Argentina, and it's live. Here's what we decided and why, and how the same approach fits a barn builder anywhere.

Why a developer who rides matters here

I ride on weekends at a local club. I'm not a barn engineer, but I know what someone who spends time around horses looks at first: is the stall roomy, does the door slide without catching, can the horse put its head out, is there light and air? That shaped what the configurator shows first and the words it uses. I told the longer version in developer and horse rider.

People buying a barn aren't buying steel and lumber. They're buying the place their horse will live. That changes what goes on the screen first.

What horse owners decide before asking for a price

Every builder has its own models, but these choices come up every time:

  • Number and size of stalls: a big warmblood, a pony and a retired trail horse don't need the same box.
  • Stall fronts: full grille, yoke opening so the horse can look out, or a solid lower half with bars on top.
  • Doors: sliding or swinging, Dutch doors to the outside, and which way they open into the aisle.
  • Layout: shedrow, center aisle, overhangs and a tack room or wash bay if you build them.
  • Walls and finish: which sections are solid, which are open, and how the whole barn looks.
  • Add-ons: feeders, waterers, windows, and whatever else you sell.

How the EQUIBOX tool works

The customer picks a model and size, sets up the walls and adds accessories. The barn builds itself in 3D as they decide, and they can spin it around and look at it from any side. When it's right, they download a PDF spec sheet and send the request on WhatsApp, where the company already talks to its customers.

On the other end, EQUIBOX has a CRM and a sales team. Requests don't get buried in a chat thread: the rep knows exactly what the customer built and replies about something concrete. The Estructuras 3D blog has the full EQUIBOX case study.

The spec sheet does the selling while you're not there

A barn is rarely one person's call. There's the horse owner, the person who runs the farm, maybe a spouse, a business partner or a boarding client with opinions. The PDF is what the buyer forwards so everyone else can weigh in. If it shows the barn they designed, the sizes and the add-ons, the decision moves forward without your rep sending a thing.

And when they come back with a yes, your rep already knows exactly what they're talking about.

Three buyers, one tool

The backyard owner with one or two horses who wants them out of a run-in shed: wants something simple, cares how it looks and decides fast.

The boarding or training barn that's expanding: thinks in stall count, aisle width and upkeep, and usually runs the rest of the business on some kind of software. If that's your buyer, you might also like horse farm management software.

The club or association replacing old barns: decides as a committee and needs something to show at the meeting. Each one builds their own, and you get requests you can compare side by side.

Working with a builder outside Argentina

Barns get bought the same way pretty much everywhere. The tool can run in English with sizes in feet, and the spec sheet can carry your branding. I go deeper into the US market in horse barn configurators in the US.

I work on my own from Buenos Aires, Argentina (UTC−3), with video calls and progress you can open from a link. To start, I just need photos of your stalls, the sizes you build and your rules: which front goes with which door, which add-ons can be combined.

Frequently asked questions

What can customers choose in the EQUIBOX configurator?

They design the barn by picking size, model, walls and accessories and watch it in 3D as they go. Then they download a PDF spec sheet and request a quote on WhatsApp.

Can one configurator handle single stalls and full barns?

Yes. Buyers can start with one stall and add more, or pick a full barn and change the number of stalls, the aisle and the accessories. Anything you don't build just isn't offered.

Can requests go straight into my CRM?

Yes. EQUIBOX has a CRM and a sales team that follow up every request. The design and the buyer's contact details can land there directly, so nothing depends on someone copying a chat.
