Horse barn configurator for US barn builders: let horse owners design their barn in 3D

A horse barn configurator lets owners pick a barn style, the number and size of stalls in feet, doors and extras, and send a complete request. I built one for EQUIBOX, a stall maker in Argentina, and the same approach fits how horse barns are bought in the US.

Horse barn configurator for US barn builders: let horse owners design their barn in 3D

A horse barn configurator is a tool on a barn builder's website where horse owners pick a barn style, the number and size of stalls, doors, overhangs and extras, see the barn in 3D and send the request. You get something concrete to quote instead of “what would a four-stall barn run me?”.

This comes from a real project. I built the 3D quote tool for EQUIBOX, a horse stall and barn manufacturer near Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here's what changes when the buyer is in Kentucky, Florida or Texas, and how the same idea fits a US barn builder.

A developer who rides

I ride on weekends at a riding club, as a lesson rider. I'm not a barn builder, but I know what people who spend their days around horses look at first, and that's what makes a configurator speak the buyer's language. A horse in Buenos Aires needs the same thing as one in Lexington: a comfortable stall, air, light and a door that doesn't catch. I tell the longer version in developer and horse rider.

What a US horse owner decides

The choices that come up on almost every barn:

  • Style: shedrow, center aisle or a monitor barn with a raised center roof for light and airflow.
  • Stalls: how many and what size, say 12x12 or 12x14 ft, depending on the horse.
  • Stall fronts: full grille, a yoke so the horse can look out, or solid on the bottom with bars on top.
  • Doors: sliding doors to the aisle and Dutch doors to the outside.
  • Work spaces: tack room, wash bay, feed room, hay storage or a bay for the tractor.
  • Overhangs: how deep and on which side, for shade or for working under cover.

Kentucky, Florida, Texas: same horse, different buyer

The US is big, and the barn changes with the region. In hot, humid places like much of Florida, buyers care a lot about airflow: deep overhangs, open fronts, roof vents. Up north they think about closing the barn up for winter. In Texas you see larger properties where the barn shares a roof with hay and equipment.

The configurator doesn't have to guess any of that. It offers what you build in each line, and if you sell in several regions, it can start each buyer on the version that's most popular where they are. Anything about codes or structural engineering stays with your team or a local professional.

Real case

The real case: EQUIBOX

In the EQUIBOX quote tool, buyers choose a model and size, set up the walls and add accessories while the barn builds itself in 3D. When it's right, they download a PDF spec sheet and request a quote on WhatsApp, which is how most people message businesses in Argentina. On the other end, EQUIBOX has a CRM and a sales team, so the rep knows exactly what the buyer designed before replying.

For a US builder the language, the units and the channel change (email, a web form or whatever chat you use), but the idea is the same. The Estructuras 3D blog has more on horse barn configurators in the US.

Kits, turnkey barns and dealers

Plenty of US barn builders sell two ways: a kit the owner puts up (or hires someone local to), and a turnkey barn built on site. The configurator can offer both, with a spec sheet that spells out what each includes, so nobody expects something that isn't in the delivery.

If you sell through dealers in several states, each one can get its own link and receive its own requests. I cover that in 3D configurators for dealer networks. For the general version, not tied to any country, see horse barn configurator for builders.

Working together remotely

I work on my own from Buenos Aires. Argentina is one to two hours ahead of the East Coast, two to three ahead of Texas and the Midwest, and four to five ahead of the West Coast, depending on the time of year. There's always overlap for a video call, in English or Spanish.

To start, I just need photos of your barns, the styles and sizes you build and your rules: which front goes with which door, which extras can be combined. You follow progress through a link and approve each phase before I move on.

Frequently asked questions

Which barn styles can it show?

Whatever you build: shedrow, center aisle, monitor barns or barns with hay storage. Each style has its own sizes and options, and buyers only see the ones that go with the style they picked.

Does it work if I sell kits and turnkey barns?

Yes. Buyers choose a kit or an installed barn, and the spec sheet shows what each option includes. That way the owner putting it up themselves knows exactly what's in the delivery.

Do you have clients in the US?

The real case is EQUIBOX, a manufacturer in Argentina. For a US builder the configurator is built with your models, in English and in feet, and we work remotely with a one to five hour gap depending on your region and the time of year.

Why does it matter that you ride?

Because I know what people who spend time with horses look at: whether the stall is roomy, whether the door slides without catching, whether the horse can look out, whether air moves through. That shapes what the tool shows first and the words it uses.
